Jamie Carragher has publicly defended himself in response to Pep Guardiola’s dismayed reaction to the pundit’s joking assertion that Erling Haaland intentionally avoided playing against Real Madrid.

Haaland was judged unfit to start in Manchester City’s 3-1 loss at the Bernabeu and was substituted. He is a doubt for the Premier League match against Liverpool on Sunday.

, who was in Spain for CBS on the night of the game, indicated that the 24-year-old did not relish a confrontation with Real centre-back Antonio Rudiger. He was working alongside Micah Richards and Thierry Henry. Richards was then left with a sense of disappointment when Carragher added, “It’s Rudiger-itis, is it?”

Arne Slot’s league leaders anticipate expanding their margin over Arsenal to 11 points with 33 remaining. They will be visiting the Etihad Stadium.

West Ham United secured a 1-0 victory at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday, derailing the Gunners’ tenuous title aspirations. Jarrod Bowen’s goal was the decisive factor. Undoubtedly, Carragher’s remarks will serve as an incentive for Guardiola and Haaland to participate in providing Mikel Arteta with a reprieve against Liverpool.
