BREAKING: After it was confirmed that Newcastle United players would be leaving, Eddie Howe made a “difficult” statement
Eddie Howe has said what he thinks about Megan Staveley and Mehrdad Ghodoussi leaving Newcastle United.
Staveley and Ghodoussi played a big role in the takeover, and they continued to help Howe after he was hired in November 2021. But the co-owners have left the club to work on other business projects. Their 5.7% ownership part has been taken over by the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund and RB Sports & Media.
Newcastle has had a lot of changes going on behind the scenes this summer. Paul Mitchell was hired as the club’s new sports director, and James Bunce was hired as the performance director. Another big deal is that the club sold two very good possibilities, Elliot Anderson to Nottingham Forest and Yankuba Minteh to Brighton & Hove Albion.
This summer, there will likely be more departures, and Howe has admitted that it has been a “difficult” time behind the scenes.
The Newcastle manager said about Staveley and Ghodoussi’s leaving, “It’s hard because they and everyone else have been so great for the football club.” Since I’ve been here, everyone has worked together.
“I got close to them and became friends with them.” They were active, loud, and supporting, not just for me but also for staff and players. They were also very visible and supportive on game day.
“That’s another change at the football team.” They helped us make deals and I can’t thank them enough for what they did for me and the players. I wish them the best in the future.
There have been rumors about Howe’s prospects at Newcastle, with links to the recently open job as England manager. But Howe says he will stay as boss of the club as long as he gets the help he needs to do his job.
He also said, “As long as I’m happy with where I am.” “Yes, as long as I feel heard by the football club and free to work the way I want to.” That is the most important thing.
“The football club has gone through a lot of changes this summer.” Everything involved with the club has had a very rough summer. Every time things change, I feel something new.
“You can name PSR, Amanda, Mehrdad, and a new athletic director, all of which change my mind.” All of these changes are big. That’s why I made the points I did: this has to work for Newcastle.
“It’s not about me being the boss.” I’m not really important. It is about making Newcastle United as good as it can be for the rest of the year and the next season. We need to work together to be the force we want to be.
Howe also said, “I’ve been really happy at Newcastle for two and a half years.” I’ve loved every minute of the relationships I’ve had and the jobs I’ve had. I think that worked out well.
“Like I said, we’re in the middle of change.” Without a doubt, I can’t say where that will lead. I hope it leads to everything I said before. That’s possible, but it should be that way for Newcastle and not so much for me. It’s always the club that matters.
