While Robert Lewandowski has had a great start to the season with Barcelona, he has been unhappy while playing for Poland.
The striker played for Poland in a Nations League loss to Portugal on Saturday, 3-1. After the game, he was quick to point out that he wasn’t getting enough help.
I’m not a defender, and it’s not my job to get the ball in my own half by squatting down. “Anyway, I can do that in training,” he said with a slightly sarcastic tone.
“Until something happens, I have to stay close to the box and wait for crosses, passes, and balls to come to me during games.” Our performance needs to be better in this area, and not just when we play Portugal.
“The ball doesn’t seem to be close to the other team’s box, and it’s my job to try to get something there.”
Next up, Poland plays Croatia on Tuesday. Following that, Lewandowski will return to Barcelona for important matches against Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, and Sevilla.
