Barcelona coach Hansi Flick introduces an drastic recovery method that will enhance their chances of winning the league this season
Hansi Flick, Barcelona’s new boss, is making waves at the club by making a lot of new and different changes. Hypoxia training, a way to improve player performance and healing, is one of the most interesting of these changes.
News from Mundo Deportivo says that Flick is familiar with this method because he used it during his successful time at Bayern Munich, where it was a key part of keeping the team in top shape.
Hypoxia is quickly becoming popular in top sports because it is known to speed up muscle recovery and improve blood flow, both of which are important for any athlete who wants to perform at the highest level.
It’s interesting that this isn’t just a Barcelona method. Real Madrid, one of their biggest foes, has also started using hypoxia as part of their recovery plans. This shows that it is becoming more common in the highest levels of football.
How do you use a hypoxic mask?
Putting the body through lower levels of oxygen than it usually would is what hypoxia means. It may seem like this would be bad, but it’s actually very helpful.
When the body is exposed to low oxygen levels, it goes through a number of changes that make it better at what it does.
When you don’t give your body enough oxygen, it has to make more red blood cells and hemoglobin, which are important for carrying oxygen around the body.
These changes are especially helpful when you’re working out, which means you can heal faster and do better on the field.
When oxygen levels return to normal, these situations force the body to work harder, which improves endurance and stamina.
Hypoxia masks imitate this effect, so players can get the benefits of training at high altitude without having to leave where they normally train.
Barcelona is fully on board with this technology. As part of their recovery, the club’s players now go through routine hypoxia sessions that keep them in top shape throughout the long and tough season.
Some time ago, young artist Lamine Yamal shared an example of this on his Instagram story. It was seen that Yamal and partner Pau Cubarsi were cycling while wearing hypoxia masks as a way to recover from starting in a game against Valencia.
This funny moment on social media showed how important hypoxia training has become at Barcelona.
