‘Big demand’ – Darwin Nunez reveals what Marcelo Bielsa is teaching him will only help Liverpool.
“High demand”: Darwin Nunez discloses that Liverpool will only benefit from what Marcelo Bielsa is teaching him.Darwin Nunez, a striker for Liverpool, disclosed that he is experiencing some difficulty adapting to Marcelo Bielsa’s Uruguayan standards.
This season, Nunez has been in outstanding form for both his club and country. Nunez, who joined Liverpool for £64 million from Benfica a year ago, has already amassed seven goals and provided six assists in 2023–24, following an uneven debut season. He has positioned himself ahead of Cody Gakpo and Diogo Jota in the number-nine pecking order as the preferred option.Additionally, Nunez has been an absolute beast for Uruguay. He has scored once in his last three matches, most recently in a 2-0 victory over the defending World Cup champions Argentina. Le Celeste ascended to second place in the South American qualifying standings for the 2026 World Cup with this victory. Following their failure to advance beyond the group stage in Qatar the previous year, Uruguay appointed former Leeds United manager Bielsa in command.
Coach of Pep Guardiola, Mauricio Pochettino, and Diego Simeone, among others, the 68-year-old is among the most esteemed figures in the sport. Furthermore, Nunez disclosed prior to tonight’s (23:30 GMT) match between Uruguay and Bolivia that Bielsa is requiring him to sprint behind central defenders in order to improve his performance.Nunez stated, as cited by El Pais: “He is a coach who makes things crystal obvious. Collectively, he requests that we generate intense pressure from the rear to the front. We make an effort to implement what he says on the playing field, and we have been doing just that.
“The aspect that most intrigued me was his request for me to run behind the central defenders.” There is an enormous demand for a forward. But I am adjusting to the style of play that Marcelo prefers. I strive to implement the suggestions he provides.
