Canadian lineman Kyle Hergel joins Chicago Bears practice roster
Canadian offensive lineman Kyle Hergel has officially signed with the Chicago Bears, joining the team’s practice roster.
The Toronto, Ontario native worked out for the Bears just over a month ago but remained unsigned until Tuesday. In recent weeks, he also held workouts with the Tennessee Titans, Minnesota Vikings, and Buffalo Bills.
Hergel appeared in eight regular-season games with the New Orleans Saints last year, logging 45 offensive snaps and 26 special teams snaps. He initially joined the Saints as an undrafted free agent following the 2024 NFL Draft and took part in training camp before being released during final roster cuts.
Standing six-foot-three and weighing 302 pounds, Hergel’s exclusive CFL rights are held by the Saskatchewan Roughriders, who selected him in the first round of the 2024 CFL Draft.
Hergel played his final college season at Boston College in 2023, earning All-ACC honorable mention honors at guard. Before that, he spent two years at Texas State, where he was named third-team All-Sun Belt in 2022. He began his collegiate career at the University of North Dakota, earning FCS Independent Newcomer of the Year recognition in 2019.
Across 54 collegiate starts, Hergel allowed just five sacks and 32 pressures on 1,774 pass-blocking snaps, showcasing impressive consistency and durability.
Meanwhile, his CFL rights holders, the Saskatchewan Roughriders (12-6), will face the B.C. Lions (12-7) in the West Final at Mosaic Stadium in Regina on Saturday, November 8. Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m. EST, with the game airing on TSN and RDS in Canada, and CFL+ internationally.
The forecast in Regina predicts a high of -3°C with a 60% chance of flurries, setting up a chilly atmosphere for the playoff clash.
