Michael Stewart raises fresh concerns over Rangers’ attacking options as Neil Lennon outlines what Danny Röhl must fix.
Michael Stewart has become the latest figure to voice serious worries about Rangers’ forward line following their 3-1 defeat to Celtic in the Premier Sports Cup semi-final on Sunday. Despite a spirited display after going down to ten men, Youssef Chermiti squandered several key chances at Hampden, while Danilo and Bojan Miovski struggled to make an impact in attack.
Manager Danny Röhl was left frustrated after the defeat, even though his side showed determination and discipline. Speaking on the Scottish Football Social Club (3 November), Stewart praised Röhl’s tactical setup but admitted the lack of cutting edge in the final third is becoming a major issue.
“His message was clear and effective — they hunted Celtic and disrupted them. I thought Röhl was outstanding,” Stewart said.
“But the big concern for Rangers is that Chermiti still doesn’t look convincing. Danilo scored a great goal against Hibs, but he doesn’t seem like the long-term answer, and Miovski looks a shadow of the player he was at Aberdeen.”
Meanwhile, former Celtic boss Neil Lennon echoed a different kind of warning — saying Röhl’s biggest challenge now is ensuring consistency in performances.
“Rangers have played really well against Celtic in their last few meetings and impressed in Europe at times last season,” Lennon explained.
“But what they’ve lacked is consistency. That’s what Röhl must instill — the right mentality inside the dressing room.”
