Spurs have been instructed to “finish these chances” by acquiring a lethal Premier League finisher.Former Tottenham winger Aaron Lennon believes that the club’s need to acquire a premier striker during the January transfer window was further emphasised by Sunday’s loss to Aston Villa. Lennon has a specific name in mind.

Spurs had numerous opportunities to score, particularly in the first half of the 2-1 loss, but were thwarted by erroneous finishing, bad luck, and three Son Heung-min shots that were deemed offside.

The host team played some dazzling football and both Dejan Kulusevski and Pedro Porro missed the target, but Villa were more clinical and prevailed on the strength of a superb header by Pau Torres and a precise finish by Ollie Watkins.Furthermore, Lennon considers Sunday’s match to be further confirmation that his former club must replace record-scoring forward Harry Kane in January, as they were unable to do so prior to his summer transfer to Bayern Munich.Real Madrid is competing to acquire Toney.

In the interim, TEAMtalk has also learned that Real Madrid is interested in acquiring the England forward.

Lennon, on the other hand, has advised Spurs to cease squandering opportunities and invest a substantial amount of money in Toney.

Following Sunday’s loss, the 36-year-old tweeted: “It was inevitable that Villa would perform poorly. Tielemans was outstanding when he entered the game; he got them moving and brought order to the contest. There were numerous positive developments regarding the performance, particularly in light of the numerous injuries that were missed. However, a striker is required to convert these opportunities. “In January, Ivan Toney.” (concluding with three pairs of eye emojis).

Since his initial £5 million transfer to Brentford in August 2020, Toney has accumulated 68 goals in 124 appearances, with the transfer fee increasing to £15 million due to add-ons.

With 160 goals in 392 games over his career, he has averaged one goal every 2.45 games.
