Mikel Merino, a player who used to play for Newcastle United, might be going back to the Premier League this summer.

Arsenal is said to want Merino because he is coming up to the last year of his deal with Real Sociedad. Merino was on the Spain team that won the European Championship this summer. He could be available for just £25 million this summer, with Mikel Arteta’s team thought to be the favorites to make a deal. However, Barcelona is also said to be interested in the player.

Merino only played for Tyneside for one season. He came on loan from Borussia Dortmund and did so well that the club signed him permanently after a few months. He was sold to Real Sociedad at the end of his only season on Tyneside, though.

Merino has done well in his home country of Spain. A move back to Tyneside has been discussed, but a move to the Emirates Stadium this summer is more likely. The Gunners have been runners-up in the Premier League for the past two years. They could sign Merino as part of a big three-player deal that also includes two other players who have been linked with a move to St. James’ Park.

Riccardo Calafiori, a defender for Bologna, seems to be the most likely to move to north London. He is just waiting for the finishing details to be worked out. Calafiori will move to Arsenal for about £40 million. He wasn’t part of his club’s pre-season training camp group.

This summer, the Gunners have also been linked with a move for Nico Williams from Athletic Club. According to The Standard, Arsenal wants Williams this summer, but they will have to beat out other teams to get him. Williams’s stock rose a lot after some great efforts for his country in Germany.

This summer, Liverpool, Barcelona, and Newcastle United have all been mentioned with moves for the winger. However, the fact that Newcastle United doesn’t play in Europe may make it harder for them to make a deal. A move for Williams will probably cost just under £50 million, but new sources say that he may stay at the Basque club next season, even though many clubs want to sign him.
