‘bridge the gap in the dugout’ – By putting Celtic head coach Brendan Rodgers and Steven Gerrard in opposing dugouts, Simon Jordan explains what will not occur

It appears that Rangers may be considering a return to a familiar visage in an effort to impede Celtic’s dominance.

Celtic celebrated trophy day, their fourth consecutive victory, and their 14th in the past 15 seasons, as the 2024/25 Premiership season concluded over the weekend with normal service.

In the interim, Rangers finished second once more and then severed ways with another manager when Barry Ferguson departed his position, months after Philippe Clement was dismissed.

Steven Gerrard, the most recent manager to secure a championship for Rangers, has been proposed as a potential candidate to return to Ibrox. However, Gerrard has only achieved one trophy during his tenure in Scotland.

Simon Jordan on Steven Gerrard’s conflict with Brendan Rodgers
Rodgers has secured the title in each of the four seasons during which he has served as Celtic’s manager, spanning two distinct periods. There is no indication that this trend will be altered.

In an interview with talkSPORT, Simon Jordan declared that Rangers are unable to “bridge the gap in the dugout” with the Irishman present.

Additionally, the former proprietor of Crystal Palace declared that Gerrard is not comparable to Rodgers.

During that time, Celtic have continued to clear house, with Brendan Rodgers returning and being in contention for another Treble ahead of their Scottish Cup final against Aberdeen on Saturday.

Jordan stated, “It is imbued with star dust, which resurrects Gerrard.”

“That would be appealing to the Americans, as it presents a commercial opportunity for them, as Gerrard is merchandisable and marketable, and it would attract their attention.” He is the final Rangers manager to attain any success in the SPFL.

“I am of the opinion that they are unable to bridge the gap in the dugout.” I am of the opinion that they can close the gap economically, and it will require some time to establish it on the pitch. However, I do not believe that he is as effective a manager as Brendan Rodgers.

“It is irrelevant how competitive he makes the Rangers, how many boxes he checks for the incoming ownership, or how it appeals to the Rangers fans.” Everything else becomes ancillary if they fail to secure the Scottish Premier League.

Rodgers’ performance at Celtic and Gerrard’s at Rangers
The Celtic Park faithful will eagerly greet Gerrard’s return, if only to witness him fall flat on his face once more.

Rodgers has a greater number of Trebles than Gerrard has trophies in total, and ultimately, it is the silverware that determines one’s worth.

However, this is the outcome of their tenures in Glasgow’s pressure cooker.
