Celtic F.C. coach Brendan Rodgers reveals why the 24-year-old defender Gustaf Lagerbielke will be absent for pre-season preparations

Celtic’s first game of the preseason was on Friday night at Somerset Park, where they played Ayr United.

The game finished in a tie, just like everyone thought it would be for an early pre-season game. A way to get in shape and a chance for young players to stand out, but nothing else.

The Bhoys’ Kyogo Furuhashi scored the goal after Odin Thiago Holm won a penalty for a clear foul in the Ayr box.

During the 90 minutes, the manager used a huge 23 players. At halftime, he put together a team that was almost completely different from the one that played in the first half.

Gustaf Lagerbielke, a defense, didn’t play, though. Brendan Rodgers chose to play Stephen Welsh, Maik Nawrocki, Dane Murray, and Lenny Agbaire in the middle of the defense.

Unfortunately for the Swede, he hurt himself and will have to slow down his pre-season training for a while.

Based on what Rodgers said after the game, “Gus twisted his ankle and knee in training, so he’s probably going to be out for a week.”

Things aren’t going well. Lagerbielke is a guy who needs a good summer if he wants to come up big for Celtic.

Nawrocki is another player who is currently hurt. He left the game against Ayr on a limp in the first half, and Rodgers revealed after the game that it was a calf problem. He will be judged in the next few days.

Both of the 2023 signings have had a rough first year with the Bhoys, and it doesn’t look like their luck is going to change any time soon.

Nawrocki seems to have the best chance of making it, but his frequent injuries are a worry.

On the other hand, Lagerbielke might be leaving the club after almost moving during the January transfer window.
