Celtic suffer fresh injury blow as Colby Donovan pulls out of Scotland U21 squad š±š
Celtic have been dealt another setback after defender Colby Donovan withdrew from the Scotland Under-21 squad due to injury.
The right-back picked up a knee problem during Celticās 2-0 defeat to Dundee United on Sunday, raising fresh concerns ahead of a crucial period for the club.
Donovan suffered the injury in unusual fashion ā colliding with an advertising hoarding as he attempted to keep a cross in play. After receiving treatment on the pitch, he was unable to continue and was replaced, forcing a reshuffle in Celticās defensive setup.
Right-back concerns growing for Celtic
The timing of the injury couldnāt be worse. Donovan had started Celticās last two matches, stepping in for Julian Araujo, who is currently sidelined.
With Alistair Johnston also out injured since October, Celtic are now facing a potential shortage of options at right-back ahead of their upcoming clash with Dundee FC on April 5.
There are even fears that manager Martin OāNeill may be forced to rethink his system entirely, with a switch to a back three now a real possibility.
International break adds to uncertainty
Donovan had been set to feature for Scotlandās Under-21 side in upcoming matches against the Czech Republic and Portugal, but the injury has ruled him out.
Meanwhile, Araujo has returned to AFC Bournemouth for treatment, with no clear timeline for his return.
On a slightly more positive note, Johnston appears close to making a comeback, having resumed full training with Canada under Jesse Marsch.
Big decisions ahead for Celtic
With limited options available, Celtic fans will be anxiously awaiting further updates over the coming days.
Their next match could be pivotal ā especially with the team at risk of falling further behind league leaders Heart of Midlothian.
