Eddie How explain the reason why Newcastle United player Anthony Gordon was not included in the squad vs Brentford in the final Premier League match
Anthony Gordon, a star player for Newcastle United, was left off Eddie Howe’s team sheet at Brentford for the last-day game in the capital.
Gordon hurt his ankle at Old Trafford last week and hasn’t practiced since. Before the game, Howe said he was doubtful for the game. But he wasn’t the only player the Toon manager left off the team sheet. It’s still unclear if he will go to Australia for the post-season tour.
He said: “It’s an ankle injury from the Manchester United match.”
Nick Pope
After last week’s 3-2 loss at Old Trafford, the England player was picked over Martin Dubravka. Since December, when he hurt his shoulder against Man United, Pope has been back in goal for the first time since then.
Joelinton H.
After coming back from a thigh injury, the Brazilian took over for Elliot Anderson in just his third game back. In this very important game, Joelinton’s presence in the middle of the field is needed.
Harvey Barnes
Barnes, who cost £38 million, gets the nod this afternoon instead of Gordon, who is hurt. Barnes comes in ahead of Miguel Almiron for the important game against the Bees.
Schar
After an injury to his leg, the Switzerland player is back in from the start. Schar starts instead of Kieran Trippier because he has played in the last two games. Emil Krafth sits on the bench instead of the right back.
