Eddie Howe rejects Ange Postecoglou’s assertion that Newcastle United’s victory over Tottenham was “unfair” following their 2-1 victory.
On Saturday afternoon, Newcastle United defeated Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 in a match that both managers believed their team merited to win.
After only four minutes, Dominic Solanke scored for Spurs, the team gained an early lead. However, Newcastle promptly responded by bringing the visitors even with Anthony Gordon’s goal just two minutes later.
The decision to permit Gordon’s goal incensed Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou on the touchline, as the ball struck Newcastle midfielder Joelinton’s palm during the build-up to the goal.
VAR determined that the Brazilian’s palm was in a natural position. Newcastle was able to maintain their narrow lead until the conclusion of the match, securing their sixth consecutive victory, as Alexander Isak made it 2-1.
