Find out about all the latest transfer rumors and news about Newcastle United as they get ready for pre-season.
Edgar Howe wants to get Newcastle United back into Europe, so the club will be shopping for new players this summer. Last season, the Magpies came very close to making it to Europe, but a top six finish is what they will be aiming for and expecting.

To do that, they will need to bring in new players, but the Premier League’s rules about money could make that hard. In the meantime, we’ve put together a list of all the latest St. James’ Park news and transfer rumors.

Fabrizio Romano

There has been a lot of talk this summer that Liverpool might try to sign Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon. Now, a person who is “inside” the transfer market, Fabrizio Romano, has spoken out. “Liverpool has had a quiet summer so far, but we know they were interested in Anthony Gordon recently, and there has been talk of a failed attempt to make a swap deal with Newcastle,” Romano wrote in his Daily Briefing piece.

“Some news outlets say that Liverpool offered Joe Gomez to Newcastle, but I can’t confirm this.” A few days ago, it was reported that Newcastle and Liverpool were interested in Gordon. However, a swap deal was never really close, so I’m sorry I don’t have this information.

It has been said that Marc Guehi could join the defense. He has been linked with Liverpool and other clubs, and he is doing very well with England at the Euros. Many clubs are interested, but nothing is close or set in stone yet because he wants to focus on the game at hand. Guehi is still a name to keep an eye on this summer, since he still has two years left on his deal at Crystal Palace.

Hearer on the rules for PSR

Alan Shearer, a famous Newcastle player, has been critical of PSR rules as Newcastle and other teams try to figure out how to follow the confusing Premier League financial rules. He told Betfair: “Obviously, Newcastle had to sell players because of PSR. It makes me happy that they didn’t sell Isak and Bruno and did the job they did. Anderson loved his time with Newcastle, but I hope he gets more chances to play for Forest and shows everyone how good he is. He’s a really good player.

“I think because of what Newcastle had to do and the timing of it, it’s been good business for them. Those PSR rules don’t sit easy with me. If Newcastle hadn’t sold Yankuba Minteh and Elliot Anderson, they would have had to sell one of their bigger players to one of the big clubs. What are your chances? What kind of message does that send? It’s just that the rules don’t make sense to me.

“Take a look at Newcastle and Aston Villa. They’re doing everything they can to battle with the big teams.” But they have to sell people when they do. Doug Luiz had to be sold by Villa to Juventus because of PSR. That can’t be right for a club that wants to compete with the big boys, and I don’t like what they have behind them as football teams.
