More than any footballer has ever been paid over the course of a year, Cristiano Ronaldo earned £218 million ($285 million) in the past 12 months. The
annual report on the top 10 paid players in Forbes Magazine disclosed the before unheard-of number. The list exposes the astonishing increase in sports stars’ salaries over the past ten years; top runner Ronaldo also ranks first in 2014 but grabs just £55m ($73m). With four names on the list representing clubs from the Middle Eastern nation, it also highlights Saudi Arabia’s growing supremacy, substituting four names for Spanish and English teams at the top of the tree. Ronaldo, one of them, was paid more than sixth to tenth combined and twice as much as his long-time rival Lionel Messi, second place.
