I think it’s safe to say that Celtic have been badly underperforming this season under Brendan Rodgers.

There is no doubt that Rodgers’ team is the best in the Scottish Premiership, but they have not been at their creative best. It’s been hard to break down teams, so the football has been slow, dull, and most of the time, very hard to watch.

Of course, there are many reasons for that. New players, injuries, and a new system can all affect how well a team and its players do, but Jim Goodwin, who used to manage Aberdeen, thinks that Rodgers really depends on two players at Celtic.

“I do think he [Joe Hart] has come in for a lot of unfair criticism this season,” Goodwin told Viaplay Sports.

“I think both Hart and McGregor have been very important for Celtic in key moments in the past few weeks, especially with the players they are missing.”

“I was just telling Neil before the game that Celtic’s starting eleven is a very, very young team if you take Hart and McGregor out of it.”

“There is no doubt that Brendan Rodgers will look to those two to lead on the park.”

Hart and McGregor have both been very important to Celtic’s wins over the last two years. They were both great when Ange Postecoglou was in charge, as the Australian coach ripped up the Scottish game.

Hart and McGregor were both key members of Postecoglou’s Celtic team that won five out of six titles, including a record-setting eighth treble.

As it turns out, Rodgers is still counting on both of them this season. This season, McGregor has only missed one game. That was in the last round of the Scottish Cup against Buckie Thistle, when he was given a break.

Hart has also only missed one game. But that was because he was suspended after Livingston was sent off. The 36-year-old couldn’t play against Motherwell the next week. (Transfer Market)

It’s clear that Rodgers will look to both players to help Celtic win the league and cup double this season.
