When Atletico Madrid resumes their 2024-25 La Liga campaign on Saturday night against Real Valladolid, they will endeavour to achieve their seventh consecutive victory in all competitions.

Real Valladolid is currently in 20th place in the La Liga ranking, having only earned nine points from their first 14 matches of the season. Diego Simeone’s team is third in the league, five points behind the leaders Barcelona.

This season, Real Valladolid has won two, drawn three, and lost nine of their 14 La Liga matches. Their total of nine points has placed them at the bottom of the division, three points behind 17th-placed Las Palmas.

This season, the White and Violets have the most dreadful defensive record in Spain’s top division, conceding 27 times in their 14 matches. Additionally, they will be entering this match in dismal form, having earned only one point in their last four games.

In their final encounter in front of their own fans on November 10, Real Valladolid managed to secure a 1-1 draw against Athletic Bilbao.

However, upon their return to duty following the November international break, they were defeated 2-0 by Getafe.

Paulo Pezzolano’s team achieved a return to the top tier by finishing second in the Segunda Division last season. They are currently striving to achieve back-to-back campaigns at this level for the first time since 2021.

Real Valladolid has suffered defeats in each of their most recent five La Liga matches against Atletico, including a 5-2 loss in the corresponding match during the 2022-23 campaign.

Atletico, on the other hand, will enter the match following a 6-0 victory over Sparta Prague in the Champions League, which marked the sixth consecutive victory for the capital champions in all competitions.

Simeone’s team has emerged victorious in their most recent three league matches, defeating Las Palmas, Mallorca, and Alaves, in addition to winning their most recent two European matches against Sparta and Paris Saint-Germain.

Last weekend, Atletico trailed 1-0 to Alaves after Jon Guridi scored from the penalty spot in the seventh minute.

However, Antoine Griezmann levelled the scores with a spot kick of his own in the 76th minute, and Alexander Sorloth secured the victory for the Red and Whites in the 86th minute of the match.

Currently, the capital team is in third place in the table with 29 points, five points behind the leaders Barcelona, following a record of eight victories, five draws, and one defeat in their 14 league matches this season.

Atletico maintains the highest defensive record in La Liga, conceding only eight goals in their 14 matches. However, their attacking record is only the fifth-best in the division, as they have only scored on 21 occasions.
