“Midfielder is a must” – 52 years-old football coach Neil Lennon reveals two key signings Celtic Fc must make during january transfer window

Following the defeat that his former team, Celtic, suffered at the hands of Hearts over the past weekend, Neil Lennon has revealed the areas in which he believes Celtic require improvement.

Brendan Rodgers has been forced to deal with the fallout of consecutive losses to the Edinburgh side and Kilmarnock, but Lennon is of the opinion that if he were to reinforce two crucial areas of the club, it would go a long way toward helping improving the team’s fortunes on the pitch.

“I don’t think he’s [Callum McGregor] a great number six,” Lennon stated in an interview with Prime League Soccer. In my opinion, he would be far more effective if he played a role similar to that of a six or eight and scored goals.

Thus, it is essential for me to have a physical presence in the middle of the field.

“And obviously, if people don’t think that Oh is the man to supplement Kyogo, then another number nine, another goal scorer,” Brendan said. “And if Brendan doesn’t think that, then another goal scorer.”

I would propose that Lennon adds another two players to that list, namely a goalkeeper and a left back, but for the time being, let’s take his statements at face value.

The striker is a no-brainer. Rodgers will be lacking in the attacking areas due to the fact that Kyogo, Maeda, and Oh are virtually certainly going to be selected to participate in the Asia Cup.

On the other hand, I would recommend that he finds a striker that is compatible with his system since there is no use in going for a Kyogo-type frontman if Rodgers continues to play the way that he has played at Celtic.

The presence of a holding midfielder is essential. I concur with Lennon that Callum McGregor is not the kind of player that would be considered that. When it comes to being an enforcer in the middle of the field, the Celtic captain is a master at influencing play and being penetrative, but forget about it.

In light of this, let us hope that Rodgers has these players on his roster. Let’s keep our fingers crossed that discussions have already begun for them. I really hope that the Celtic board decides to part with the money. As a matter of fact, it is Christmas.
