Reason why Newcastle United co-owner Amanda Staveley is leaving the club in a sudden move

Amanda Staveley and Mehrdad Ghodoussi, the co-owners of Newcastle United, are expected to depart the organization less than three years following the Saudi-led acquisition of the Magpies.

In 2021, Staveley was instrumental in the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund’s (PIF) acquisition of an 80% stake in Newcastle for £300 million.

She was awarded a 10% interest in the club as a reward for her involvement in the takeover, which concluded Mike Ashley’s unpopular 14-year tenure at St. James’ Park.

The Sun has reported that Staveley, 51, and her spouse Ghodoussi, who had previously served as interim co-chief executives before the permanent appointment of chief executive Darren Eales in 2022, intend to depart the Premier League club.

The Reuben brothers, Jamie and David, were reported to have acquired a 10% stake in Newcastle during the initial acquisition, and board member Staveley was reported to have sold approximately 40% of her shares to them earlier this year.

In March, Staveley’s future was called into question following the disclosure of her resignation as a director from 20 Newcastle-related companies in Companies House filings.

However, she denied any indications of an imminent departure at the time.

Staveley stated on Instagram that the modifications were solely administrative and applied to non-trading subsidiaries.

“Following the acquisition, Jamie (Reuben) and I assumed the roles of directors for all companies until we could establish an executive team.” We continue to serve on the board and the ‘top-co’.

According to reports, Newcastle’s board is unlikely to replace the British businesswoman in the near future.

Staveley is a beloved figure among Newcastle supporters, as he has been instrumental in the club’s success since the takeover.

Nevertheless, The Athletic have also announced that Staveley and Ghodoussi will be departing the club as a result of the organization’s recent restructuring.

“After being stripped back under Ashley, Newcastle now have a more rounded business structure, with Darren Eales in place as chief executive and Paul Mitchell recently replacing Dan Ashworth as sporting director,” according to the investigation.

“All parties have reluctantly concluded that the time is right for Staveley and Ghodoussi to step back and sell their shareholding and for the club to move on.”

Newcastle was eliminated in the group stages of the Champions League last year, despite having qualified for the competition since her arrival.

In the 2022/23 campaign, they also advanced to the Carabao Cup final, where they were defeated by Manchester United.

The club is anticipated to be active in the summer transfer market, as Eddie Howe’s team finished seventh in the Premier League last season and will be looking to improve upon that performance.
