Sport pundit Kris Boyd makes Ange Postecoglou and Celtic claim as he brutally blasts Rangers head coach Philippe Clement over recent issues

This past weekend in Glasgow has been eventful as Celtic gears up for a significant Champions League confrontation against Bayern Munich. In the background, those in Celtic colours, including Brendan Rodgers, have been duly entertained by their counterparts, Rangers.

Philippe Clement has experienced yet another typical weekend following Queen’s Park’s elimination of Rangers from the Scottish Cup at Ibrox.

As we advance to the present, mere hours following the degradation experienced by the Gers, the individual occupying the Rangers dugout remains in command, poised to receive recognition despite yet another season devoid of trophies. Clement assumed leadership of Rangers in 2023 and has thus far secured only the Scottish League Cup, while Celtic continues to maintain its dominance.

Kris Boyd employed the esteemed Celtic figure Ange Postecoglou as a reference to effectively critique Clement.

Kris Boyd draws a parallel between the current circumstances of Rangers and the period when Ange Postecoglou assumed leadership of Celtic. Upon assuming leadership of Celtic, Postecoglou encountered a club that had recently endured its most challenging season in ten years, accompanied by significant transformations within the squad.

However, the Greek-born Australian, who was relatively unknown upon his arrival, swiftly transformed Celtic’s fortunes in a manner that remains memorable to this day. While analysing the issues afflicting Rangers, including the misconception that they have not invested under Clement, Boyd sought to illustrate how to effectively manage a new coach by referencing Ange’s tenure at Celtic.

He conveyed this perspective during an interview with Sky Sports News on February 10, 2025, at 1:25 PM. “Philippe Clement has already been subjected to considerable pressure,” stated Boyd. Gordon (Duncan) is correct in his remarks regarding the long-term project; however, one can only proceed with such an initiative if there is observable progress, which, in my assessment, is currently lacking. I do not perceive any potential for improvement within this Rangers team. “The quintessential illustration for me is Ange Postecoglou.”

He joined Celtic during a period of reconstruction, as the club had experienced significant player departures. Within a matter of weeks, Ange Postecoglou successfully revitalised the club. The manner of play was immediately evident, and the Celtic supporters embraced it wholeheartedly. They proceeded with the decision, and the subsequent events are well-documented.

“You discuss the enhancement of Rangers and the implementation of a long-term strategy,” Boyd remarked. “Not the cyclical repetition characteristic of managers.” You must continue this process until you identify the appropriate manager.

One cannot simply assert, “Due to the dismissal of the previous three managers, we shall persist with the current one until there is an improvement.” The process does not operate in that manner.

“If financial considerations are at play, you will seek a means to secure the necessary funds to advance the football club and relieve Philippe Clement of his responsibilities, as his performance has not met expectations for an extended period.” “This issue is not going to dissipate.”
