The latest insight into the Sheffield Wednesday takeover reveals Walton Penner’s status, with new offers expected soon.

Potential buyers for Sheffield Wednesday are expected to begin submitting official bids within the next two weeks, with a preferred bidder possibly identified before the Sheffield derby on November 23.

The Owls entered administration on October 24 under owner Dejphon Chansiri, following mounting financial pressure from creditors such as HMRC. So far, seven interested groups have provided proof of funds worth £50 million to administrators Begbies Traynor, placing them in the most advanced phase of the takeover process.

That number could rise to double figures within the next week, as more parties express interest. Administrators told BBC Sheffield that they’ve been “pleasantly surprised” by both the quality and depth of potential bidders, highlighting strong enthusiasm for acquiring the club.

Those who have shown proof of funds have now been granted access to a second data room, allowing them to examine the club’s financial and operational details more closely before submitting formal offers.
