The official statement regarding the controversial VAR judgement in the Newcastle United v West Ham match has been released by the Premier League.

Eddie Howe has expressed his perspective on two decisions that resulted in a loss for his team in their match against West Ham on Monday night. On a disappointing occasion at St James’ Park, Newcastle United were defeated 2-0 by West Ham.

Howe’s team was unable to maintain their impressive performance against the resolute Hammers, despite having won three consecutive games. The visitors’ advantage was doubled by Aaron Wan-Bissaka in the second half, following Tomas Soucek’s early goal in the first period.

Newcastle continued to struggle for goals on their home ground. This campaign, Howe’s team has scored only five goals in six matches at St James’ Park.

However, they believed they had taken the lead minutes into Monday night’s encounter when Alexander Isak was played through before he delicately chipped the ball over Lukasz Fabianski.

Nevertheless, the assistant promptly raised his flag, a decision that was verified and approved by the VAR prior to the game’s continuation.

As the Hammers defence continued to thwart their attacks, their grievances intensified. Eventually, Callum Wilson, who was making his first start of the season, was sent to the ground by Konstantinos Mavropanos.

Craig Pawson rejected any objections, despite the striker and the home crowd’s significant appeals. The technology promptly validated Pawson’s decision.

When asked about the two decisions following the game, Howe stated, “For Callum’s, I believed it was a close call and would require further scrutiny.”

I anticipated that the offside goal would be subject to a more thorough evaluation and, with any luck, result in a victory for our team.

The Premier League also issued a statement that disclosed the reason why VAR did not award the Magpies a penalty for the incident involving Mavropanos and Wilson.

The Premier League Match Centre wrote on X that the referee’s decision to not award a penalty for Mavropanos’s challenge on Wilson was verified and affirmed by VAR, who determined that the contact was insufficient to warrant a penalty.

Newcastle United, who concluded the evening in tenth place, have only five days to contemplate the loss to West Ham before they travel to the capital to play Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.
