For the first Africa Cup of Nations semi-final, which will take place today evening at the Stade de la Paix in Bouake, Nigeria will be competing against South Africa in a match that is sure to be a barnstorming contest.

Both teams have maintained a strong defensive performance throughout the entirety of the competition. Nigeria has only allowed one goal to be scored against them on their way to the last four, and that was in their first game against Equatorial Guinea. They have also maintained four consecutive clean sheets. South Africa was able to achieve the same feat when they won their penalty shootout match against Cape Verde. This triumph came after Bafana Bafana had successfully held their opponents to a scoreless draw while also recording their fourth consecutive clean sheet.

The Super Eagles, who have struggled to score goals throughout this tournament, were able to secure a quarterfinal victory over Angola by virtue of a goal scored by Ademola Lookman in the first half of the match. The single goal of the match was scored by Nigeria, making it the third time in this tournament that they have won by a score of 1-0.

This is the only time that Nigeria has made it to this round of the competition since the last time they won the crown, which was more than ten years ago. They have been eliminated from the African Cup of Nations semi-finals five times in the last six matches, but this is nothing in compared to South Africa, who has not made it to the last four since the year 2000.
