“I believe he went to the hospital” – Celtic Manager speaks out on major injury blow as Hoops gained three (3) points after defeating Hibernian with (1-2) goal margin
After beating Hibs last night, Celtic has now won all three games against the Edinburgh club at Easter Road under Brendan Rodgers.
It also gives Celtic a three-point lead at the top of the table, which means Rangers need to win their game in hand against Ross County next Wednesday.
The Hoops went ahead 1-0 in the first five minutes thanks to a penalty kick by Adam Idah. But Hibs fought back and tied the game with a piledriver by Dylan Levitt in the 60th minute.
Idah, however, stepped up again in the last minute and scored his second penalty of the game, giving Parkhead all three points.
The win was good, but it cost something. After Alistair Johnston and Stephen Welsh were changed in the second half, Johnston was taken off on a stretcher. Welsh was seen hobbling off.
After the game, Rodgers was asked about both players. The Celtic boss is worried that they could lose two more defenders to injury.
Regarding Alistair Johnston, Rodgers told Sky Sports, “Yeah, it was a bad one for him.” I believe he went to the hospital. I’ll find out a little more later.”
When asked about Stephen Welsh, the Celtic boss said, “His hamstring felt tight.” We’ll have to talk about that with the medical staff tomorrow.”
It’s not good for Celtic to have any more players out with injuries. Rodgers has had a terrible run of injuries this season, and it’s possible that two more players will not be able to play when St. Mirren comes to town.
With Cameron Carter-Vickers and Greg Taylor both out for a while with long-term injuries, Rodgers might have to play an in-form St. Mirren team with a back four that isn’t quite together.
But the most important thing was that Celtic got three more points that were very important in the race for the league title in Scotland.
