BREAKING: Celtic F.C midfielder Matt O’Riley was seen in the training centre after transfer rumours
After taking some extra time off to enjoy the summer, Celtic midfielder Matt O’Riley is back to working with the team.
Even though O’Riley wasn’t called up to Denmark’s Euro 2024 group, he did train after the season in case someone got hurt and had to drop out of the national team.
Because of this, he wasn’t in the first group of players who came back to Lennoxtown last Thursday. From his Instagram posts, we can see that the player has been having a great time on trips to the Maldives and India lately.
He is now back at the training center, though. His work was seen yesterday, as the Bhoys got ready for a friendly against Ayr United at Somerset Park on Friday night.
During the off-season, there was a lot of talk about O’Riley leaving the team, so it’s good to see him back and ready to prepare for the new season.
There was talk of deals for O’Riley and interest from the English Premier League.
Early this week, it was said that Southampton was one of the teams trying to sign O’Riley this summer, though they are offering less than Celtic want.
The Saints want a starting fee of £20m, which is less than what the Bhoys think the player is worth, which is around £30m.
It is said that O’Riley himself set a high bar for an exit. It looks like Southampton wouldn’t be able to offer him the kind of money he would want in his next job.
There is no guarantee that the player will move this summer, but if he does, it will only be for the right price and to the right club. He’s not going to sign with the first team that comes calling.
In the meantime, he will likely play in pre-season games and on the upcoming tour of the United States. However, a game against Ayr may be too soon for him.
