Arsenal is nearing completion of a £69 million agreement for the Brazilian wonderkid; personal terms are not a concern because the player was Gabriel Martinelli’s childhood friend.According to the Brazilian news outlet R7, Arsenal are preparing an opening proposal to sign Santos striker Marcos Leonardo in advance of Manchester United. The 20-year-old has been linked to the Gunners on numerous occasions this season, and they are currently considering making an opening offer for him.

The north London giants have reportedly “entered strongly” the race for the striker, according to R7. They are preparing a proposition of €15.5 million (€17 million) to acquire his services the following month.

United, whose interest in the talented center forward has also been reported, are merely monitoring his situation and have no intention of making an approach. In the interim, Leonardo has expressed his intention to depart Santos following the club’s relegation from the Brazilian Serie A. He will not report for the team’s preseason beginning on January 6.

Santos is cognizant of his present position and is willing to grant him permission to depart this winter, on the condition that they receive the majority of the fee in advance.

Arsenal should consider acquiring a more prominent striker, as Leonardo has impressed greatly during his time with Santos over the past two seasons. He scored 21 goals in the 2022–23 season and accomplished the same in the most recent campaign.

Notwithstanding this, it remains uncertain whether he would have an immediate effect. Unfamiliar with playing in Europe, the adolescent might find it difficult to adjust to the increased intensity.

Although his work ethic and finishing abilities have been commendable, the Gunners should consider acquiring a more seasoned player in order to improve their likelihood of winning the league.Ivan Toney of Brentford would be an ideal candidate, but securing a transfer could be challenging. Brentford will almost certainly demand a transfer fee in excess of £80 million.

A surprise selection for the Gunners could be Serhou Guirassy of Stuttgart, given his outstanding form in Germany. He has scored eighteen goals in fourteen appearances.

The Guinea international’s contract includes a nominal release clause of €17.5 million (£15 million). With the replication of his current level of play, Arsenal has the potential to legitimately win the league championship.
