Brendan Rodgers moves to sell Mikey Johnston this january transfer window – (John Hartson break silence and reveals the reason why)
If there was ever a reason to explain why a Celtic player is consistently selected to play ahead of a transfer window, then this is the one that fits the bill.
There have been occasions when Celtic fans have looked at Brendan Rodgers’ team selections with a sense of perplexity. This has occurred throughout the course of the past few weeks.
On TBR Celtic earlier today, I provided an explanation as to why I believe the manager would select Paolo Bernardo rather than Tomoki Iwata for tonight’s Predicted XI against Tomoki Iwata.
However, John Hartson has proposed an additional explanation for why Brendan Rodgers has continued to pursue relationships with individuals such as Mikey Johnston in recent times.
As a result of the injuries sustained by Liel Abada and Daizen Maeda, many individuals believe that Johnston is being given the opportunity to begin his career.
This is not the case for Hartson. A different argument is being given by the former Celtic hero, and it does appear to make proper sense.
During an appearance on The Go Radio Football Show, Hartson stated, “I just think the likes of Mikey Johnston, one of the reasons why he’s had a little run in the team is because he wants to put him in the shop window.”
This is a reasonable evaluation of a player who has been with Celtic for eight seasons but has not yet established himself as a significant member of the first or second squad.
It has been acknowledged by Johnston himself that he is experiencing pressure to deliver, and he should feel this way. He runs the risk of being categorized as a player who sits on the bench.
In light of the fact that it appears that this is the only time he has an effect. Entering the game at approximately the sixty-minute mark and attempting to defeat players who are becoming exhausted appears to be his area of expertise.
The two most recent games that Johnston has started, he has not been able to capitalize on his opportunities. In the event that he begins his work tonight, I am concerned that it may be his final opportunity if he is unable to generate similar results in the future.
