Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers reveals the reason why started with Kyogo Furuhashi and Adam Idah during St Mirren vs Celtic match

Brendan Rodgers, the manager of Celtic, picked an odd team to play St. Mirren in the Scottish Cup this afternoon.

Fans of the Hoops would have been shocked if Paulo Bernardo was put on the bench and Kyogo Furuhashi and Adam Idah were started.

Rodgers has started two strikers for the first time this season. Here, the Celtic manager tells why he did it.

“I don’t think the structure of the team changes so much,” Rodgers told Celtic TV. A midfielder is being switched out for a striker.

The form of the team won’t be too different from what you would normally see, though.

“But it has been really fun for me to watch them train and connect them.” They are both fast, which means they can both score goals.

“That being said, I think that when we play against St. Mirren’s back five system, those two up there along with others can really help us break that down,”

As I already said, this is the first time this season that Rodgers has played two strikers for Celtic from the start. The Celtics manager has ended a few games with two up top, so seeing Rodgers do this was certainly a surprise.

Celtic won 2-0, which means Rodgers made the right choice with his team pick. If you watched the game, you could see Idah trying to move the St. Mirren players out of the way so Kyogo could get through.

The opening goal showed that the two Paisley center backs stayed close to Idah, which gave the Japanese striker space in the middle. Idah then scored the first goal from the edge of the box, becoming the Celtic star.

Celtic fans will want Rodgers to do more of this because the team has been having trouble lately getting past tough defenses.
