“He once again let me down when I trusted Him with a starting position,” Erik Ten Hag said of the Manchester United player who was responsible for today’s comical loss at Old Trafford.Manager Erik ten Hag of Manchester United has discussed the areas in which his squad must make strides in the wake of Saturday’s abhorrent 3-0 home loss to Bournemouth.Ten Hag was powerless from the bench as the Red Devils suffered their seventh Premier League loss of the season; the Cherries’ late fourth-minute effort was ruled out by VAR, which could have made the situation even worse.

At that moment, a significant number of supporters had already gathered at the exit doors; in fact, Old Trafford was “half empty” during the final phases, according to the BBC.

Ten Hag, speaking to reporters following the contest, stated, “Of course, annoyed and disappointed. It is extremely disappointing, as I had anticipated that you could build on Chelsea’s performance and outcome prior to the game. The manner in which we began the game and then, for what seems like an eternity, exerted every effort to get back into it; we managed to get one shot on goal, which was almost a penalty; however, we made a blunder in the buildup; and our remaining defense is inadequate; this is extremely disappointing.

“You are aware that we exerted considerable effort to tie the game, but the equalizer did not materialize due to a lack of brilliance and movement in the penalty area.” We collapsed following the 2-0 loss, so we must improve.”

Ten Hag was dismayed by United’s lackluster start, in which the Red Devils conceded within the first five minutes.

“As I previously stated, I believe the manner in which we began was inadequate; that is poor,” he stated. “It’s the first five minutes of the game, and particularly against a very strong transition team like the one we face today, you’ve created ideal conditions for them.

“It shouldn’t have happened, but we tried everything we could to turn the tide; despite having numerous opportunities and launching numerous attacks, we were unable to do so.”When asked why United are so inconsistent, Ten Hag responded, “That is the question, but I believe we must always be prepared for the game; therefore, I must accept responsibility for that.” It is my responsibility to ensure that the team is adequately prepared for the game. In retrospect, our start time has been extremely discouraging, and we must do better.

“We are extremely inconsistent; we are capable of improving, but it takes effort every game and every third day. I believe that, as a group, we lack the consistency that we require and that we must strive to progress in that regard.”

Regarding Anthony Martial, whose second-half substitution elicited applause from the home crowd, he stated: “He played an outstanding game against Everton two weeks ago; he certainly possesses the necessary skills and abilities to contribute, so I do not believe it is fair to criticize him after that performance.”
