Manager of Scottish League One club Queen of the South Marvin Bartley gave key reasons why Celtic Fc can’t ask for £50 million for 23 years-old celtic player Matt O’Riley

Marvin Bartley has gone into great detail about why Celtic can’t demand at least £50 million for star player Matt O’Riley, who is tied to Atletico Madrid.

Madrid made an offer to loan the Danish midfielder to them in exchange for a player this month, but Celtic turned them down, as manager Brendan Rodgers revealed on Thursday.

Of course O’Riley isn’t leaving, but it’s very possible that he will be sold in the summer, maybe to a Premier League club in the south.

People who called in as Celtic fans on the Clyde 1 Superscoreboard were sure that the Bhoys should demand a lot more than £20–25m for O’Riley. One person even suggested £50m as a price.

They bet on O’Riley, but Queen of the South boss Bartley told them that the Hoops could not set his value at £50m because of things like his wages and the level he plays at now.

Gavin Duncan asked Bartley if Celtic could start asking at £50 million for O’Riley. Bartley said, “No, they can’t.” You should also think about how much English players get paid.

People down there play for teams like West Ham and make £150,000 a week, and that’s before they get to the top six in the league.

“We (Scottish Football) can only get so much for our players because the wages have to be fair for what you want to pay them.”

It’s a sellers’ market up here, which is a shame, but it’s good for the players to come up and do well. Rangers and Celtic are like most clubs in Europe in this way.” But, as I already said, we can only get so much for our stars if they leave.

“I get that Celtic fans feel that way and want more, but he was bought from MK Dons.” No matter how good people thought Matt O’Riley would be, he’s already shown what he can do at League One level.

“Now he’s at a higher level with Celtic, and he did it again.” To avoid missing out on the next Matt O’Riley that Celtic want, you can’t just start asking for £50m for players. There’s a chain of events that must happen.

“Players like Moussa Dembele who have been in the league before and been bought out are great for Celtic because they can show other teams what they can do with these players.”

“Your player trading stops, so to speak, as soon as you start to stop them and become unrealistic about how much you want for them.”

There was another caller who asked, “If you paid £250,000 for a Rolls Royce in Scotland, you pay £250,000 for a Rolls Royce in England!” Crossing the line at Carlisle doesn’t save you money.

When asked what was wrong, Bartley replied, “That doesn’t work that way. Let me show you.” As an example, if you’re looking for a center midfielder in the English Premier League and compare him to Declan Rice or Kevin De Bruyne, there is a huge difference between him and Marvin Bartley, who plays for Celtic in Scotland.

That doesn’t make sense. You can’t say, “He did really well against Marvin Bartley, so you should pay the same amount of money for someone doing well against De Bruyne.”

There’s no getting around the fact that our league isn’t as good as England’s. With that in mind, Atletico Madrid doesn’t know if Matt O’Riley can play at their level week after week.

“Matt O’Riley would be worth more than £25m or £30m if he was doing well in La Liga. They know he can do well against better players there.”
