Manchester United has granted Mateo Mejia his release.

The 20-year-old has left Old Trafford following five years in the academy divisions of Manchester United. He freely transfers to the La Liga club on a permanent basis.

He will be reunited with Hannibal Mejbri in Spain, who similarly joined the Spanish club on loan from Manchester United in January.

Thursday morning saw the confirmation of the transaction by Manchester United.Manchester United confirms the departure of Mateo Mejia.

The club media of Manchester United issued the subsequent statement regarding the academy star, which served to validate his departure.

Mateo Mejia has concluded a permanent transfer to Sevilla from Manchester United, where he spent four and a half years.

Since joining our Academy in 2019, the 20-year-old has been a member, having joined from his native club Real Zaragoza.”Despite being born in the northern Spanish city, Mejia is eligible to represent Colombia via his parents, and in December 2022 he made his debut for their Under-20s.”

“In 2022/23, Mejia established himself as a regular for the Under-21s by making 15 appearances and scoring against Arsenal and Leicester City after bouncing back from a couple of injury setbacks.”

Last summer, he represented the youth squad on a trip to the United States, where he participated in a friendly match against Wrexham. In San Diego, he took over for Shola Shoretire for the final phases.

Mateo, who trained with Erik ten Hag’s first team, remained an option for Travis Binnion this season, making 12 appearances and scoring three goals, including three in EFL Trophy matches.”We extend our sincere wishes for Mateo’s prosperous future and look forward to closely monitoring his professional development.”

Coaching in Spain is ecstatic about Mejia.

The Spanish press believes Sevilla is acquiring a legitimate player in this transaction. Upon learning that Mejia would be joining Los Hispalenses, Michel Catalan, who previously coached Mejia as a juvenile at Real Zaragoza, expressed the following.

He told Estadio Deportivo, “I was in that match with Santi Aragón, and he immediately surprised us with his speed and ability to unbalance.”

“Since we signed him, the tempo was perpetually altered due to his speed.” Catalán elaborated, “With spaces, Mateo is simply lethal, much like a bullet.”Additionally, he is distinguished by “a magnificent and exquisite stride” and “a strong start that renders him exceedingly challenging to pass in the race.”

Our sincere wishes are with Mejia as he pursues his endeavors in Spain.
