Mason Greenwood might be able to move back to Manchester United as his sends a clear noticeable message out to Old Trafford
Outside of Old Trafford, Mason Greenwood is having a great run of form.
Mason Greenwood continued his great play in La Liga on Friday night, when he was the star of Getafe’s hard-fought draw with Villarreal. Greenwood went on loan from Manchester United in the summer and doesn’t seem to have a future at Old Trafford. However, his play in Spain is making it harder for people like Sir Jim Ratcliffe to ignore him.
From 21 league games, the 22-year-old has helped set up 10 goals, making him one of Getafe’s best players this season. He was very important in getting a point for Getafe against Villarreal, which kept them within four points of the top six teams in the league.
Early on, Getafe got a free kick on the edge of the Villarreal box. Greenwood used his weaker right foot to step up and take it. Yerson Mosquera made a bad clearance because of his pass, which Nemanja Maksimovic took advantage of to put Getafe ahead.
It was also almost an assist for Greenwood after he ran down the right wing and beat a few players before sending in a low cross from the byline. Greenwood is on loan from United. Greenwood breezed past a number of Villarreal players with ease, but none of his teammates were able to get on the end of it.
At United, Greenwood might be able to get back into the running, but it doesn’t look likely that he will be able to join Erik ten Hag’s team again. A year ago, charges of attempted rape, controlling and coercive behavior, and assault causing real bodily harm were dropped. He was then loaned to Getafe.
After United did their own investigation, they chose to send him away because of complaints from fans, women’s support groups, and some staff members. In a statement, they said, “Everyone involved, including Mason, is aware of how difficult it will be for him to start over at Manchester United.”
“It has, therefore, been mutually agreed that it would be most appropriate for him to do so away from Old Trafford, and we will now work with Mason to achieve that outcome.”
Ratcliffe, on the other hand, hasn’t decided what to do about Greenwood’s future yet, but he must have been pleased by how well he played at Getafe. It remains to be seen if United will change their mind about the forward before next season. The Red Devils need more ability up front more than anything else.
Football sides from outside of England are likely to be interested in Greenwood this summer, which means he will probably have a busy time. The player has already been linked with a move to Barcelona, and in recent weeks, Atletico Madrid has also been connected with signing him.
Dutch agent Menno Groenveld has openly offered to work with Greenwood, calling him a “top player” who should be one of his clients. Voetbal Primeur asked him, “That’s a player I think fits my agency.”
“He’s a great player, but you can’t take it easy with him,” You need to work. Even though a lot has happened, you can still make a difference with that player. Then what I have to say is also important.”
