Pep Guardiola felt bad that he couldn’t get Max Alleyne off the bench to make an already great night for Manchester City’s youth team even better.

Since City had already won the group and were in first place, the manager made nine changes from the 2-1 win over Luton on Sunday. Young forward Micah Hamilton started for the first time, and Mahamadou Susoho made his debut in the second half. With Rico Lewis, Oscar Bobb, and Phil Foden also on the field, the club had five academy grads playing together.

That almost turned into six, but Guardiola didn’t want to bring on center back Max Alleyne while Crvena Zvezda was trying to make a comeback in a 3-2 game. Even so, the City manager was happy with how Hamilton and the other young players played.

“What a goal! What a game. He said, “I’m so happy for him.”

“He trains with us a lot. We saw how good he was in a one-on-one situation up front, where he scored a great goal and converted a penalty. When he wasn’t in a one-on-one situation, he made extra passes.” He was violent to protect himself.

“Well done to the academy for all the work they’ve done over the past few years. Look at how many players have come up and how many we’ve sold to the Premier League, the Championship, and even other leagues.”

The team was steady after giving up a goal, and he played really well too. I’m happy for Micah on his first job.

“But we were in a great position. It’s not easy to give chances at that level because people don’t wait in big clubs.” I almost put Max on as a central defender at the end because he is so good with the ball, but the game wasn’t quite under control. Still, it’s a big compliment to the whole school for many years.

“Brahim Diaz and Cole Palmer were here. A lot of players have come from here for a long time.” It’s Romeo Lavia, Gavin Bazunu, and James Trafford. Because the school works so well, a lot of players are now in the Premier League and the Championship.

I’m in charge of the first team, so I only see them when I need to. It’s great to see them though. Oscar is the truth. What a great goal he turned in. It’s a really great goal.

“I’m happy with the outcome, the overall performance, and everyone’s hard work.” How the old guys helped the young guys, and how winning helps you win. That’s what happened against Luton. It helped us win today and should help us win the next games too.
