
Nevertheless, in the build-up, Andy Madley was summoned to the pitchside monitor to examine a potential foul by Will Hughes on Wataru Endo. The on-field referee duly nullified the penalty and, indirectly, the yellow card of the LFC captain.
The home crowd was understandably incensed at the decision, but Liverpool’s Japanese midfield player was obviously hindered, and fortunately the referees made the correct call. In fact, former elite referee Mike Dean, who was an unbiased observer, held the same opinion.
