Manchester United fan favorite Cristiano Ronaldo got a birthday message on social media from his old team, even though he left Old Trafford in a bad way.

Ronaldo may have left Manchester United for the second time in November 2022 under a cloud, but the three-time Ballon d’Or winner still loves the team very much.

Ronaldo, who is 39 years old, came back to Old Trafford in the summer of 2021 after playing for six years under Sir Alex Ferguson at the start of his career. However, his second visit didn’t last long.

Even though Ronaldo scored 24 goals in 38 games across all competitions in 2021/22, he was given a smaller role when Erik ten Hag joined the team, and their friendship quickly fell apart.

Ronaldo ended his deal early after being able to come to an agreement with United in November 2022. But he is still connected to the club, and the Premier League team was quick to send a birthday word of support to the Portuguese superstar on his 39th birthday.

The United message was posted on Instagram along with the chant “Viva Ronaldo.” The player himself liked the post on his own account, so it was clear that he agreed with it.

Ronaldo, who now plays for Al-Nassr in the Saudi Pro League, said he felt “betrayed” by the club and criticized Ten Hag in a heated interview with Piers Morgan, just before his departure was announced. He had grown unhappy at Old Trafford under the Dutch manager.

Because of what he said, his leaving didn’t come as a surprise when it was made public a few days later. Ronaldo responded to the news with a statement that said, “Following talks with Manchester United, we have both agreed to end our contract early.”

“I will always love Manchester United and its fans.” But I think now is the right time for me to look for a new task. I hope the team has a great rest of the season and in the years to come.

Ronaldo has scored 44 goals in 50 games for Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia since leaving the Premier League. They are currently in the running for the Saudi Pro League title. They are in second place right now, seven points behind Al-Hilal, who have yet to lose this season.

At Manchester United, Ronaldo got 145 goals in 345 games over the course of his two stints there.
