According to the Daily Mail, Scottish heavyweights Rangers and Celtic have shown interest in young talent Joe Gelhardt, who plays for Leeds United. This interest has been expressed during the January transfer window.

As rumors circulated that the Leeds player would leave Elland Road this month, the newspaper published on its website on January 8 that the player is coveted by both of the Old Firm clubs.

The Scottish teams are in need of reinforcements up front in January, but Gelhardt has had a difficult time finding game time so far this season. Under Daniel Farke’s direction, he has only made six appearances in the Championship.

The loan or the permanent

A report from The Athletic [21 December] claimed that the striker would be open to a loan exit from Elland Road in January if the right deal presented itself. However, the report does not specify whether the interest in Gelhardt would be on a loan or a permanent move. Both types of moves are possible.

As a result of the relegation that occurred during the previous season, Leeds may be searching for a permanent solution to his playing issue. This would allow them to sell the striker and bring in some money, as well as get his salaries off the books. This would be done in an effort to achieve more financial certainty.

Both teams are in need of attacking reinforcements to enhance their title bids, which might encourage Gelhardt to push through the move to Scotland within the next month if Leeds proves resistant to allow him leave. There is a possibility that Gelhardt will be made the main man in Glasgow at this time.
