REVEALED: Reason why Lucas Paqueta and Kalvin Phillips swap deal cannot be achieved this transfer window summer

It is said that Manchester City will not be able to use Kalvin Phillips as part of a deal to sign Lucas Paqueta this summer.

City tried to sign the Brazilian from West Ham United during the summer transfer window a few months ago. The two teams were in touch again when Phillips moved to the London Stadium on loan for the rest of the season.

Some behind-the-scenes information about the Hammers’ stand on a possible deal that would see the two players switch clubs permanently has come to light with the next summer transfer window in mind.

West Ham is not interested in a deal to trade Paqueta for Phillips.

Lucas Paqueta

This is what a recent article from The Athletic said about the situation.

The report said, “Phillips’ arrival will not affect Lucas Paqueta’s possible summer move to Manchester City.”

“This summer, Paqueta’s £85 million release clause goes into effect, but West Ham have no plans to include him in a deal with Phillips to make sure that Phillips’s signing is permanent.”

Paqueta has played 68 times for David Moyes’ team in all competitions since joining the east London club during the summer transfer window of 2022. He has scored 10 goals and set up 13 others.

The Hammers finally got Phillips, who they tried to sign before City did in 2022, but they say they won’t consider a deal that would cost them Paqueta in order to sign the English player permanently. This makes us think that City could only get the Brazilian player by paying his release clause.

As the summer transfer window approaches, it’s safe to say that both players’ possible next moves will be interesting to follow after the season is over.
