Following their 2-0 loss to Heart of Midlothian last weekend, Celtic have been at the center of the latest VAR dispute in Scottish football.

We all know that Hyunjun Yang was sent off for a high tackle on Alex Cochrane. Don Robertson first gave him a yellow card, but VAR sent him to the monitor for a second look.

When he got back, the 37-year-old changed the caution to a straight red card and gave the South Korea international an early bath, even though it wasn’t clear if his try to keep the ball was worthy of such a punishment.

Later, Tomoki Iwata was punished for a questionable handball foul that let Hearts score the first goal from the penalty spot.

At the end of the game, both choices made Brendan Rodgers very angry, and he named one of the officials in his press conference.

“I never like to comment on officials; it’s not something I do,” the Irishman said. But that cost us today: the refs, from those on the field to John Beaton in VAR, were really, really bad.

Unfortunately, Yang’s dismissal was not overturned after an official appeal. As a result, the 21-year-old will not be able to play in the upcoming games against Livingston and St. Johnstone.

The decision to keep his two-game ban has not been made public, but an official explanation should be given in writing this week.

Kenny Miller says what he thinks about Hyunjun Yang’s red card for Celtic.
When it comes to Glasgow, Kenny Miller has played for both sides of the split. However, he is praised more across the city than at Parkhead.

In spite of this, the former Scotland international has defended Yang, saying that he shouldn’t have been sent off at Tynecastle because of the controversy surrounding his tackle.

“I don’t (think it was a red card),” Miller told the Clyde 1 Superscoreboard. You can’t just throw everything in one group.

There was no real force used by Yang when he went after Cochrane. It was clear that he was just trying to get his toe on it to flip it over Cochrane’s head, and Cochrane went in.

Afterward, he said, “There was contact, there was clear contact on his head, but it was minimal.” I know you could have said “putting the opponent in danger,” and I agree. If they had been going together and one foot was raised, that would have definitely put the opponent in danger.

“To try to get the ball, his leg was going straight up in the air.” It’s not fair that that got a red card; I didn’t mean to blame them; I just thought it was really unfortunate.

Celtic will have to change because Hyunjun Yang isn’t there.
The fact that Yang has two assists in his last three Scottish Premiership games [Transfermarkt] makes his suspension for the next two games less than ideal.

Even so, someone else will have a chance to make a claim. Luis Palma and Nicolas Kuhn are the most likely candidates to fill in for him against Livingston on Sunday.

A veteran player named James Forrest is also ready to go. Last month, Rodgers hinted that the man from Prestwick might play a big part as the season comes to a close.
