The main reason why England and Arsenal player Declan Rice was very angry with Slovakia coach in the Euro 2024 match (2-1)
Declan Rice got into a fight with Francesco Calzona, the manager of Slovakia, after England beat Slovakia in the last 16 of the Euro 2024 tournament on Sunday night.
Declan Rice yelled at Francesco Calzona, the boss of Slovakia, after he shoved him after England beat them in the last 16 on Sunday.
The Three Lions beat Italy in a nail-biting 2-1 extra-time game to secure their spot in the Euro 2024 quarterfinals. Next Saturday, they’ll play Switzerland, who beat current leaders Italy 2-0 this past weekend.
The 25-year-old midfielder played a key role in all 120 minutes of play. However, things got heated after the game when Calzona, who was clearly angry, stormed toward the match officials to confront referee Umut Meler about his complaints about the Turkish official’s choices.
Calzona went straight for Meler during the full-time drama, and Rice is said to have tried to step in, but was pushed hard by the Slovakian manager. This made the England star angry, and he was then pushed again by a member of Calzona’s coaching staff.
As teammates Ivan Toney and Aaron Ramsdale led him away from the fight, Rice was seen yelling at Calzona what looked like the words “bald c***,” though this has not been confirmed publicly.
After the fight was over, Calzona talked about what he thought about it, saying, “Rice was supposed to go to the referees and leave.” I had to talk to the refs, but he wouldn’t leave. He kept going. But he said sorry, and everything was okay. That the England team was spending time without getting in trouble was not something I liked.
When Rice talked to the reporters after the game, he didn’t say anything about the controversy. Instead, he focused on the win and Jude Bellingham’s performance. “That takes a lot of guts,” he told BBC Sport. “It was a big moment for anyone 21.”
“People don’t know what it takes to cross the line.” We’re not playing against guys who can’t be seen. Their football skills are very good, and they kept going after us. That takes a lot of guts for a 21-year-old.
“People don’t know what it takes to cross the line.” We’re not playing against guys who can’t be seen. Their football skills are very good, and they kept going after us. Waiting for those moments as the game got longer is what we did more of. I can’t say enough good things about the people tonight. So thankful that all of them are here to see that.”
